Our Trip to Wine Country
On Saturday, August 14, we headed up to Sonoma County with our good friends Elizabeth McCord, Natalie Cinson and Kara Fox. It was only a little over an hour drive from San Rafael, where we were staying. Our first stop was at the Sonoma County Visitor's Center for some information and maps. After that, we headed to Schug Winery, which is a small winery. We all agreed that their Chardonnay was delicious. Then we drove into the town of Sonoma, and walked around and stopped in a few shops. Kara had picked up some free wine tasting coupons for a winery in town called Castle Winery. This is another small winery, and their wines were delicious across the board. Our favorite was the port with chocolate and a crisp white wine, so we got a bottle of the white wine and some port infused chocolate truffles for lunch. We then had a picnic in a courtyard, where we ate yummy cheese, French bread, garlic-stuffed olives, and fruit. During lunch we had a great time reminiscing about college. After lunch, we packed up the car and headed out to find more wine! We stopped at Kenwood, a very large winery, and we were less than impressed by their offerings. Finally, we made it to Chateau St. Jean. Their whites are good, but their reds are wonderful! Matt and I bought 2 bottles of Merlot to take home with us, and we're proud to say they survived the trip in checked baggage! We had a great time, and have to say thank you to Kara and Elizabeth for being our tour guides, and especially to Elizabeth for being our dd!
Kara wrote an article about our trip. You can read it in Tahoe World. All the pictures were taken by Matt!
